Window Frame

Every building has windows, thus they also have a window frame. These very important elements of a building are often ignored or taken for granted. The frame is the key component of a window that holds the glass in place and keeps the heat or cold air inside a building. They also bring aesthetic beauty to homes and some buildings as needed.

Window frames are often made out of wood, but there are also types made of aluminum, steel and fiberglass. The wood type of frame has always been a good frame as it is a good insulator and keeps energy bills to a minimum; however, they are in strong competition with other types of frames. The most produced frame is a metal frame with two layers and insulation in between to keep the heat or air conditioning inside the building.

When a builder or person deciding to modernize their home is purchasing items for their home such as the window frame, they need to take into consideration the cost, economic efficiency, maintenance, and visual requirements of the building. There are many different types of window frames that the purchaser needs to be familiar with, so they can make an informed decision.

Some of the different types of frames are aluminum, wood, and vinyl. Aluminum frames are excellent heat conductors and they usually have smaller exposure areas so there is more window than frame. Wood frames continue to be the favorite among conventional builders. Cladding a wood frame is putting aluminum stripping over the wood to protect it from outside weather. Vinyl is used in much the same way as aluminum but due to its lesser rigidity, many layers of vinyl have to be used. However, this creates chambers inside the frame where the wind is caught making this type of window frame one of the best.
